Hughes Parker industries recently hosted a quarterly meeting of Lawrence County’s Joint Economic & Community Development Board. General manager Mike Stigall reviewed Hughes Parker’s growth in recent years. The company has expanded and now has annual sales of $22.5 million Stigall also noted that Hughes Parker invests $10 million per year in the local economy between payroll and business with area suppliers. The company uses nearly 14 milion pounds of steel each year to form products for its customers. Most of Hughes Parker sales are spread across the heavy truck, lawn and garden, recreational equipment, and automotive markets.
Hughes Parker managers conducted a full tour of the facility, explaining the company’s operation, which uses technology such as laser cutting, robotic welding, radio frequency inventory control, and electronic order entry.
The Joint Board consists of representatives from Lawrence County and city governments, businesses, and the community. The Joint Board quarterly review included an update from the Chamber of Commerce on economic development activity. President Randy Brewer reported an increase in business prospects looking at the community and at available industrial sites. He also noted an increased interest in living in Lawrence County deed to the affordable cost of living in the attractiveness of a community with a “hometown feel”. The Joint Board appointed member Tom Benson to the Department of Transportation’s rural planning organization which is coordinated by the south-central Tennessee development District to ensure that rural communities have input into roadway projects.
Stigall noted “We are pleased to host the Joint Board. Hughes Parker is committed to supporting the development of the community and its industrial base”. Hughes Parker is owned by JMAC Incorporated of Worthington Ohio, with two plants in Lawrenceburg and one in Manchester Tennessee the company specializes in precision metal stamping and related services for copper, brass, stainless steel, and aluminum materials. Clients include Carrier, Cummins, Sharp, and Yamaha. Hughes Parker is QS 9000 registered and will soon upgrade to TS 16949. The company employs about 150 people.
