Hughes Parker Industries, based in Lawrenceburg Tennessee has received ISO/TS 16949:2002 quality certification. This is the latest standard for quality and manufacturing. Mike Stigall, General Manager for Hughes Parker says “Demonstrating the highest level of quality attainment is significant to the continued growth of our business, as it is a requirement of major customers. Being TS certified also makes Hughes Parker eligible to bid on new business in heavy truck and automotive markets. It is a competitive advantage as many other firms in the metal stamping business are not TS certified.”
Bill Hillis, Director of Quality and Pprocess Engineering for Hughes Parker, notes that the process requires close attention to quality standards and documentation. “We began to TS certification process in late 2004 and transitioned in 2005 as auditors verify compliance, and received certification in March 2006. Special thanks to our quality staff, internal auditors, and all who participated. Having a well trained and experienced staff makes this level of quality attainment possible.”
Growth and jobs
The company also announced continued growth in its business. “To accommodate new business from Paccar and US stove works, we are investing more than $500,000 in another lasercutting center,” says Mike Stigall. “We are also investing $300,000 in our paint system and adding a new powder coating room. These improvements will increase our capacity and efficiency. With this expansion, we expect to add around 10 employees this year, bringing our total employment to approximately 160 by late 2006.”
Hughes Parker is owned by JMAC Incorporated of Worthington Ohio, with two plants in Lawrenceburg and one in Manchester Tennessee. The company has annual sales of $22.5 million Hughes Parker invests $10 million per year in the regional economy, between payroll and business with various suppliers. The company specializes in precision metal stamping and related services for copper, brass, stainless steel, and aluminum materials. Most of Hughes Parker’s sales are spread across the heavy truck, lawn and garden, recreational equipment, and automotive markets, with clients including Carrier, Cummins, Sharp, and Yamaha. The company currently employs about 150 people.
